Former White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt is taking her defense of President Donald Trump’s agenda to Fox News, joining the network as a contributor just days before the midterm elections. Fox announced Monday that she will begin providing commentary and analysis on November 1, giving one of Trump’s most recognizable spokeswomen a new platform after her August departure from the administration.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to continue appearing on FOX News Channel as an official member of the extraordinary team at FOX News Media,” Leavitt said in a statement. “I look forward to bringing my unique perspective from my experience as White House Press Secretary, along with the same energy and candor that defined my tenure, to Fox’s millions of viewers across their many platforms.”

Leavitt left the White House to spend more time with her two young children, explaining that the demands of the press secretary’s office had become incompatible with the mother she wanted to be. After giving birth to her daughter, Viviana, in May, she returned to work in June before deciding to step down two months later.

“The truth is since returning to the White House after the birth of my daughter, I have felt in my heart that I cannot be the best mom my two young children deserve while devoting the constant time, energy, and attention required of the White House Press Secretary–and that is why I have ultimately made the bittersweet decision to depart the White House and embark on a new chapter in my life,” she wrote on Twitter.

Her departure from the briefing room did not signal a retreat from politics. Leavitt said she planned to return to Trump’s super PAC, MAGA Inc., and made clear that she intended to remain in the fight against Democrats.

“Our country is facing an existential threat from an increasingly extremist Democrat Party that seeks to destroy everything great about America, and I believe it is incumbent upon all of us who care about this country to fight back against that threat.”

The Fox deal comes as Trump presses Republicans to do a better job selling their record to voters. “I’m going out because nobody’s selling it,” the president has said. He has also complained, “The only thing we’re doing badly at is public relations.” Leavitt’s new position will put an experienced advocate for his administration in front of viewers during the campaign’s closing days and beyond.

She follows a familiar path from the White House briefing room to television. Former Trump press secretaries Sarah Huckabee Sanders and Kayleigh McEnany also joined Fox after leaving their administration posts. The network offers former officials a way to remain influential in Republican politics after their government service ends.

Leavitt became the youngest White House press secretary in American history when she took the job at the start of Trump’s second term. Before that, she served as national press secretary for his 2024 campaign and was the Republican nominee in New Hampshire’s 1st Congressional District in 2022. Her experience also includes work as an assistant press secretary during Trump’s first administration and as communications director for Rep. Elise Stefanik.
