Hunter Biden Capitol Hill Stunt Goes Awry

On Wednesday morning, Hunter Biden tried to pull another stunt on Capitol Hill, but this time it did not go as planned.

While the House Oversight Committee met to mark up a bill to charge the president’s son with contempt over his refusal to comply with a subpoena, he sauntered into the hearing room flanked by PR staff and a lawyer. Hunter sat silently as the panel debated whether he should be charged with contempt.

The move sparked outrage from Republicans, who’ve issued a congressional subpoena for him to sit for a closed-door deposition in their ongoing impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden. The president’s son has said he would testify only in a public forum, and has previously castigated the probe as “illegitimate,” ABC News writes.

“You’re the epitome of white privilege, coming into the Oversight Committee, spitting in our face, ignoring a congressional subpoena to be deposed. What are you afraid of?” Republican Rep. Nancy Mace said just after he entered the room. She went on to say the younger Biden should be arrested and go “straight to jail.”

Mace was interrupted by another lawmaker, Democrat Jared Moskowitz, who said they could “hear from Hunter Biden right now” and called for a vote to have him speak.

Hunter Biden made his way into the hearing amid opening statements and took a seat in the front row. He was accompanied by his lawyer Abbe Lowell.

“My first question is who bribed Hunter Biden to be here today? That’s my first question. Second question, you are the epitome of white privilege. Coming into the Oversight Committee, spitting in our face, ignoring a congressional subpoena to be deposed. What are you afraid of? You have no balls to come up there,” Republican South Carolina Rep. Nancy Mace told Hunter Biden.

After his stunt did not go as planned, the crown prince of the Biden family, reported The Daily Caller, “dashed out of the hearing room as Republican Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene was starting her round of questioning at the Oversight Committee hearing.”

“I think it’s clear and obvious for everyone watching this hearing today that Hunter Biden is terrified of strong conservative Republican women because he can’t even face my words as I was about to speak to him. What a coward,” Greene told the committee.

Outside of the hearing room, Hunter did not receive the welcoming press he expected. In one case, a reporter asked him what kind of drugs he used.

On December 13, House Republicans officially approved the impeachment inquiry into President Biden, focusing on his involvement in his son’s overseas business transactions with shady business partners and Russian and Chinese oligarchs. The inquiry is being led by Chairman James Comer of the House Oversight Committee, Chairman Jim Jordan of the House Judiciary Committee, and Chairman Jason Smith of the House Ways and Means Committee.

“The president denied speaking with his son’s business associates on Dec. 6, the day after the Ways and Means Committee released email data showing then-Vice President Biden exchanged over 50 emails with Hunter Biden’s then-business associate Eric Schwerin.

Joe Biden spoke with his son’s business associates on at least 20 occasions and had dinner with them multiple times, Hunter Biden’s former business associate Devon Archer testified in July,” the Daily Caller noted.

At his press conference, Speaker of the House Mike Johnson backed the Oversight Committee’s move, saying, “I don’t know why Hunter’s here. He wants another photo op. He’s not compliant with that subpoena.”

Facing nine federal tax charges, Hunter Biden is set to be arraigned in California on January 11. These charges stem from his alleged failure to pay over $1 million in taxes over a four-year period. Additionally, he is confronting three federal gun charges in Delaware, having pleaded not guilty to them in October.

Biden has so far refused to appear for a private deposition. Joe Biden, earlier in his term, said that those who refuse to accept a congressional subpoena should be prosecuted. He has also claimed that he will not pardon his son.
