When you’ve run out of ideas, you start handing out snacks apparently. With voter enthusiasm sagging and policy momentum stalled, Democrats are once again reaching for spectacle over substance—at this point it’s getting a little sad. Earlier in the week, the Democratic National Committee dispatched a taco truck to Capitol Hill, parking it near the Republican National Committee headquarters in what they’re calling a dig at former President Donald Trump. The truck, emblazoned with a cartoon of Trump in a chicken suit and the slogan “Trump Always Chickens Out” (TACO), and distributed free tacos from noon to 2 p.m. on Tuesday.
The move is ostensibly a jab at Trump’s handling of tariffs—specifically, his sharp reaction to Wall Street traders mocking his trade policy stumbles. But critics see the stunt as more telling than taunting. “’LMFAO. A taco truck? Are they going to be giving out free vasectomies again too?’ RNC spokesperson Zach Parkinson said in a statement, citing a past DNC pro-abortion initiative,” explained Axios.
Recent polling revealed that Democrats are deeply unpopular with voters and even members of their own party have grown increasingly frustrated by the party’s focus on theatrical messaging over meaningful reform, according to The New York Post.
Shock polling showing Democrats still languishing behind Republicans on economic issues stunned CNN analyst Harry Enten on Monday.
“You’d expect that Democrats would have this massive lead on the economy — it ain’t so! It ain’t so!” Enten said as he unveiled new CNN polling showing the GOP still holds a massive advantage over Dems.
“How is it possible after all the recession fears? After the stock market’s been doing all of this, after all the tariffs that Americans are against, and Republicans still hold an eight-point lead on the economy? Are you kidding me!?” Enten continued.
“How is that possible, Democrats!?” the CNN analyst said.
The data guru pointed out that other polls are even more brutal for Democrats, including the latest Reuters/Ipsos poll, which shows Republicans widening their margins on economic issues under Trump.
For decades, polls showed Dems had a double-digit edge on the party who looked out for/was the party of the middle class. Polls now show the GOP/Trump have totally eliminated that gap.

DNC Chair Ken Martin tried to frame the event as a commentary on Trump’s unpredictability, claiming, “With his idiotic trade policy, he talks a big game, caves, and then leaves working families and small businesses to deal with the fallout,” DNC chair Ken Martin said in a statement.
The stunt didn’t work after the taco truck owner left early.
🚨 LMFAO! The Democrats’ attempt to mock Trump outside the Republican HQ with a taco truck was such a FAILURE that the taco truck man packed up and left early 😂
These people are BEYOND pathetic 🤣 https://t.co/tRRKNLMS2b pic.twitter.com/pXQRQZ89Yr

Vice President J.D. Vance pointed out the obvious.
We have the lamest opposition in American history. https://t.co/KdfaXgR11Y

As the 2026 midterm season heats up, the taco truck episode reflects a deeper strategic drift among Democrats. Lacking a unifying policy vision, the party has leaned increasingly on viral stunts and anti-Trump gimmicks—moves that may energize a social media base but leave swing voters cold.
For now, the Democrats may serve up a few laughs and tacos. But with kitchen-table issues dominating voters’ minds, critics argue that empty calories won’t cut it. Tacos are great, but they’re not a governing agenda.
