Democratic, leftwing “Squad” member Ilhan Omar is facing accusations of “treason” and calls for expulsion from the House of Representatives after a video surfaced in which the Minnesota congresswoman claimed she did not hold her top loyalty to the United States.

The speech of Ilhan Omar was first posted on social media by Somaliland Ambassador Rhoda Elmi, who slammed the video, saying her country is “profoundly surprised, even shocked on discovering the remarks made by Congresswoman Ilhan Omar (D) of Minnesota in a recent public forum, widely circulated on most social media platforms and attached below for your reference.

The language she employed was regrettably unbecoming of both the office she holds and the constituents she represents.

Her expressions were lacking in common decency and revealed a significant lack of understanding of basic facts. Specifically troubling, were her endeavors to revive the once-violent and dangerous ideology of Greater Somalia or Somali Weyn, which caused so much death, destruction and conflict in the Horn of Africa.

Furthermore, her use of ethno-racist rhetoric didn’t escape attention and left many, with a deep sense of disappointment.”

The Daily Mail writes that “the leaked video of Omar’s speech on January 27 quickly went viral and garnered widespread criticism, including from far-right Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) who accused her colleague of using her position to protect people who ‘hate America’ and also said she’s clearly admitting to putting another country ahead of American interests.

House Majority Whip Tim Emmer, who also represents a district in Minnesota, called for his colleague’s resignation.

‘Ilhan Omar’s appalling, Somalia-first comments are a slap in the face to the Minnesotans she was elected to serve and a direct violation of her oath of office,’ Rep. Emmer said in a statement, according to Alpha News. ‘She should resign in disgrace.’

‘Sleep in comfort knowing I am here to protect the interest of Somalia from inside the U.S. system,’ Omar said, according to a translated version of the video.

The event took place Saturday in Minneapolis. Alpha News reported, ‘Allegedly speaking about Somalis as a group, the video’s translation quotes Rep. Omar as saying, ‘We are an organized society, brothers and sisters, people of the same blood, people who know they are Somalians first, Muslims second, who protect one another.’

The video appears to show Rep. Omar praise the leadership of Somalia’s current president, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, in his fight against other east African countries.

Other alleged quotes from Rep. Omar’s speech at the event include:

‘We are people who will never allow someone else to steal our land.’

‘Somalia is for Somalis only.’”

Former member of the House and current governor of Florida Ron DeSantis slammed Omar, saying that the comments should have her expelled from Congress.

Donald Trump, Jr. also slammed the Minnesota Democrat. The Daily Mail noted that the former president’s son “lamented that the United States doesn’t even make the ‘top three’ in level of importance to lawmakers after Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) made clear her top priority is Somalia.

‘You know, Ilhan Omar says stuff like, ‘Oh, well, I’m Somali first, Muslim next. We’re going to make sure that Somali is heard.’ Like, you now, you are in the United States Congress,’ Trump Jr. lamented in Las Vegas, Nevada on Monday evening.

‘Like we don’t even get a mention anymore in America,’ he added. ‘Like, we’re not even top three or we just get forgot about entirely.'”

This is not the first time Omar has faced expulsion from the House for her repugnant views and “ethno-racism.” In October, the Minnesota Democrat was called a Hamas mouthpiece for pushing the lie that Israel bombed a hospital in Gaza, which American intelligence said had been done accidentally by the terrorist group themselves.

In 2022, Newsweek called out the antisemitism of Omar, who has said that she believes that Jewish political organizations control Congress with money, writing, “Of course, Omar’s record of trafficking in incendiary, antisemitic comments—about Israel, the U.S.-Israel relationship, and American supporters of Israel—goes back nearly a decade. Each time, more or less the same pattern follows the initial outburst: First, she (or someone on her behalf) insists she was misunderstood or her comments taken out of context, though those comments, whether in the form of tweets, interviews, or statements, are all a matter of public record.”

In 2019, Democrats circled the wagons around Omar after her antisemitic comments after Republicans proposed a vote condemning her racism.
