By The Democratic Socialists of America’s campaign to remake the Democratic Party from within is becoming increasingly explicit.
In newly resurfaced footage, DSA activist and streamer Michael Beyer says the Democratic Party establishment must be “ripped out” and predicts that taking control of the American “ship of state” will be a “violent process.”
“The Democratic Party establishment that we have has to be ripped out. We can actually start to grab hold of the ship of state and steer it our direction, but it’s going to be a violent process,” Beyer said.

The comments appeared in a compilation of clips circulated by Canary Mission and have spread widely on social media in recent days. Beyer, who streams under the name “Mike from PA,” is a DSA member who has previously drawn controversy for inflammatory remarks.
The footage also features Oliver Larkin, the DSA-backed congressional candidate who challenged Rep. Jared Moskowitz in Florida’s Democratic primary.
“This Democratic Party needs to change,” Larkin said, arguing that Democrats needed to enter political spaces occupied by figures such as far-left streamer Hasan Piker.
Larkin was not some random activist on the margins of the socialist movement. The national DSA made him its first federal endorsement of the 2026 election cycle, with four Florida chapters organizing on his behalf. DSA said openly that it intended to challenge establishment Democrats in primaries.
A former staffer on Bernie Sanders’ 2016 presidential campaign, Larkin ran on Medicare for All, a $25 federal minimum wage, abolishing ICE, the Green New Deal, free public college and ending U.S. military aid to Israel. His campaign also held a virtual fundraiser with Piker and other prominent progressive activists.
The effort ultimately failed. Moskowitz defeated Larkin by a wide margin in the Aug. 18 primary, taking more than 60 percent of the vote in the newly redrawn 25th Congressional District.
But the broader socialist push inside the Democratic Party has been considerably more successful.
DSA-aligned candidates have increasingly used Democratic primaries to challenge incumbents and establishment-backed candidates, with the organization building an electoral operation designed to elect openly socialist politicians under the Democratic ballot line. That strategy has produced several notable victories in the 2026 cycle, including progressive and democratic-socialist wins that have intensified an internal debate over how closely Democrats should embrace the party’s growing left wing.
That makes Beyer’s language more significant than an isolated outburst from an online activist.
The DSA is not merely protesting Democrats from outside the party. Its candidates run in Democratic primaries, seek Democratic nominations and, when successful, become Democratic nominees for public office, even if they vow to topple Democratic leadership.
The resurfaced compilation also includes podcaster Krystal Ball discussing AIPAC spending and raising a hypothetical about creating “some instability over there,” along with appearances by other prominent left-wing media personalities.
It is not clear from the short compilation what Beyer means by “violent process,” but leftwingers have increasingly grown more violent over the past few years.
But his broader objective was considerably less ambiguous: rip out the existing Democratic establishment, take control of the political machinery and steer the government in a different direction.
And as socialist candidates continue competing — and sometimes winning — Democratic primaries, the fight over who controls the party is no longer theoretical.
